Analysts appreciate Pakistan’s important role in trade and economic integration among SCO member states

Shahid Amin (former ambassador) The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is one of the largest organizations in the world, comprising more than forty percent of the world’s population and having the world’s GDP. It also includes the two most important world leading countries, China and Russia. The organization’s motive for convening this meeting is to highlight climate change, economic, regional and international cooperation within and outside the SCO region. On the sidelines of the SCO Council Heads Summit, the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz and his Russian President Putin is very favorable to support Pakistan’s important role in the trade and economic integration of SCO member states, which will usher in a new era of economic connectivity in the region. He said pipelines from Russia would compensate Pakistan as well as countries in the region. The SCO Summit will open up new businesses in Pakistan’s business market in all Central Asian and South Asian countries included in the SCO region.

Dr. Amir Raza (RI Expert) There are two important things to understand, first the scale of the SCO organization and second the role of SCO itself. When we talk about the SCO, there are few regional countries in the organization. But the population of these countries is equal to half of the world’s population. Trade connectivity between these countries can boost economic cooperation in the region as well as globally. The inclusion of Pakistan in this organization is a chance for us and we should benefit from it as much as possible. The humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan will also be discussed. The importance of this forum cannot be ignored as these meetings should have taken place to discuss these important issues of interest. The delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to raise India-related issues in this forum, so that these world powers can pressure India to come forward for consensus. There is nothing more important to us than the issue of Kashmir and regional peace.

Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig (Economist) Pakistan has long and worked diligently to become a permanent member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Prime Minister Shehbaz’s meetings with the leaders of various countries are a chance for us, especially Russia. The route that covers more than half of Eurasia is the largest energy and trade cooperation corridor. The network of gas pipelines could be extended in the region as well as the development of a railway network which will improve the tourism sector. This is a historic visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to this forum and certainly it will be very beneficial for Pakistan. In this devastating time of flash floods, we urgently need humanitarian assistance. This is the right time to take advantage of these world powers as they are already ready to help in any measure. On the other hand, Foreign Minister Bilawal also works on the sidelines in promoting foreign cooperation. The SCO belt has the potential to boost trade and economic activities in the region.

Ali Sarwar Naqvi (former ambassador) On the sidelines of the SCO Council Heads Summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s meetings with world leaders, especially Russian President Putin, are very important. These meetings highlighted the issue of regional cooperation as well as future plans for trade and various issues. A large number of people in the SCO belt can develop a wide range of business cooperation with each other to boost the economy of their respective countries. The SCO is one of the largest organizations full of opportunity and potential in the commerce market. Therefore, Pakistan must make the most of it to do the maximum to make its economy prosper.
