Brown business developers exploit the Main Street network

MOUNT STERLING — A Brown County organization dedicated to supporting existing businesses and growing new ones has joined a statewide network it hopes will boost those efforts.

Mount Sterling is a new branch of Illinois Main Street through Action Brown County. Illinois Main Street uses the Main Street approach to facilitate preservation-based economic development and community revitalization.

Mount Sterling’s recognition as Illinois’ Main Street community provides access to a network of approximately 2,000 programs used by communities across the state.

“Action Brown County is thrilled and honored to have Mount Sterling recognized as an Illinois Main Street community,” said Action Brown County Executive Director Alex Geisler. partnering with the Main Street Organization to further our mission to inspire the community, celebrate the Hornet spirit, and promote economic growth in Brown County.”

The nonprofit Action Brown County was created to promote the community and develop the county’s economy.


Since 1992, Illinois Main Street programs have raised nearly $1.2 billion in investment, created more than 11,000 jobs, created more than 2,300 new businesses, and rehabilitated 1,100 buildings, depending on the group.
